CitriCholess works by blocking the enzyme involved in cholesterol production of HMG-CoA reductase. Bergamonte™, the Citrus Bergamot extract in CitriCholess, is able to reduce cholesterol levels within liver cells. With less cholesterol being produced by the liver, the liver cells can absorb more of the cholesterol circulating in the bloodstream, which typically comes from cholesterol-containing foods reacting on the LDL receptors on the surface of the liver.
CitriCholess reduces the cholesterol produced by your liver along with the dietary cholesterol absorbed by the body. Additionally, high levels of HMG-CoA reductase trigger high blood glucose levels. So in addition to controlling cholesterol levels, Bergamonte extract inhibits the cholesterol-making enzyme, which also contributes to lowering blood glucose levels.
- Bergamonte™, a Citrus Bergamot extract, has been shown in multiple clinical studies to keep pace with the results that are seen with statin drugs. However unlike statins, CitriCholess helps to reduce blood sugar.
Bergamonte has clinically proven cholesterol and triglyceride-lowering abilities. Human studies in patients with diet-induced hyperlipidemia have demonstrated an average 28%decrease in serum cholesterol, 38% decrease in triglycerides, 38% decrease in LDL, 38%increase in HDL cholesterol, and 22% decrease in blood glucose.
New research is under way on the other benefits of Bergamonte in CitriCholess and initial results show that it may reduce plaque formation in arteries, and reduce arterial scar tissue. Studies are being done to see if Bergamonte may even be effective for sickle cell anemia.
